Stop Publishing, Start Converting: Build Your Podcast Ecosystem | #278
Just because you have a podcast does not mean you have a strategy. Let's keep it real. If your show is not tied to your offers, to your calendar, or to your client journey, you are creating content, not conversion opportunities.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Just creating content is what leads to podfade. It is not sustainable. Why not? Because a mic with no map, well, it really does lead to wanting to throw it all away. More podcast episodes won't fix a podcast that's floating around without a plan. Guesting on podcasts without a strategic game plan is just creating more content.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: There's nothing else involved. There's no strategy there. It's just showing up and helping the host create content. It may work for the host, but it's not doing much for you.
Most podcasters are chasing downloads.
Smart podcasters, they focus on direction.
This is where your podcast ecosystem comes in.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: I've got some guidance I'm going to share in this week's episode about what a podcast ecosystem is. Okay, fun fact, we talked about this Tuesday in the Virtual Podcast School live. If you are not yet inside that Virtual Podcast School, I highly recommend you join us. The link will be in the show notes.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Why join the Virtual Podcast School? Well, one, it is free. Two, we go live every Tuesday together and the whole idea behind every live on Tuesday is not to do a lecture. It is for you to listen in, to [00:02:00] participate and get something done. It's for you to leave with something tangible and something tactical.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: In this week's episode, I'm going to share more about the podcast ecosystem and I'm also going to share a link for you to listen and watch the replay. I'm not even going to do an opt-in. No opt-in. You can just click the link and go watch the replay. I'm also going to put a link in the show notes for the podcast ecosystem audit.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: You can go through and look and, and check the boxes of the ecosystem you currently have in place. I suspect there will be boxes that will not be checked on this podcast ecosystem audit checklist. And that's okay. That's why we're here. We're here to learn. We're here to grow. We're here to monetize every episode.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Hey there, I'm Jen Rogers. I am your hostess with the mostest. The other day my husband was asking me. Why does everybody say that? I said, say what? He said, hostess with the mostest. And I said, not everybody says that. In fact, I thought that was original to me. I'm going with, I made that up. I was talking one day introducing myself as I was recording an episode and it just came out and it felt so good to me.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: So note, if someone else is your hostess with the mostest, I want to hear about it. Or maybe I don't. No, it's all good. It's all good. You can have one more hostess with the mostest. What you cannot have is a podcast strategy that is not converting. This is why people hire me, by the way.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: As a podcast strategist, I help people monetize every podcast episode because each episode is a part of their ecosystem. If you are down for that, this episode number 278 of Simplify Podcasting is for you. You want more? You [00:04:00] want more of this? Join us inside the Virtual Podcast School, our free community.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Head on over to www.coachjenrogers.com/community . Join the Virtual Podcast School. Alright, let's get into it. I've got this great podcast ecosystem idea. I'm going to share with you the audit checklist I'll share with you, and also a super fun, exciting announcement. I cannot wait. Let's dive in.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Let's dive in. This is a great episode for pencil and paper for you to respond to the prompts. If you are driving somewhere and you are unable to take notes. Listen now, let it process. Press pause where you need to, to respond to the prompts, and then come back later and revisit this so you can begin to create and ensure that your podcast ecosystem is in place to monetize.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: The first area we're going to touch on of five areas is your voice.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Your voice. It's more than a vibe. It is your message, and it is your methodology. Too many podcasters start talking without getting clear on their through line. They follow the trends. They try to match someone else's tone, or they just wing it week to week.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Your voice must reflect these three things.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Number one. Your core beliefs. When you look at the podcast audit and you watch the replay, you'll hear me talk about these as your pillars. Your core beliefs will be part of your episodes. Whether it is one episode on faith or one episode on mindset, or one episode on budgeting, or one episode on spiritual healing.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Whatever it is, you have core beliefs and they are reflected in the pillars of your podcast that you revisit over and over again.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Number two, your ideal listeners' pain points, their [00:06:00] hopes, and you offer up. What is the next step for them to take?
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Three, your offer. Yes, yes, yes. Your podcast must reinforce what you sell.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Remember, we are monetizing every episode. You must let people know what it is you are offering. Okay? Let's solidify these three things by answering these questions before we move on to this second part of the podcast Ecosystem audit.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: What are your core beliefs? What are your core beliefs?
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Number two, what are your ideal listeners' pain points, their hopes, and the next step that would be likely for them to take?
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: And the third thing: What are your offers that you have in place? So whether you have one offer, two offers, or three offers, what are the offers you have in place that are part of your listeners' journey that are the smart next step for them to take? What are your offers?
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Number Two: Alright, let's move on to your platform.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Your platform is how you're showing up. It's not just your podcast audio. Tech and your touch points are critically important. Yes, you've got episode titles, you've got graphics, you've got your promotions that you're sharing. There's more to it than that.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: You don't need to be on every platform, but... you do need to write titles people can actually search and click. You do need to promote your episodes more than once, and in a previous training inside the Virtual Podcast School, I was sharing how you can retitle your episodes if you have an episode that does seem to be underperforming in comparison to other episodes, perhaps there's something there with a title.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: So you can [00:08:00] rename the title. Promote your episodes more than once. And the third thing is your podcast. It's a, remember, it's a reflection of your brand and it's part of your overarching content strategy. It's not the other way around.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: What we teach here is your podcast is foundational. You record your podcast, and that is something that branches out into all the other areas that you do. So for example, I was mentioning that we talked about this inside the Virtual Podcast School on Tuesday. I knew we were going to talk about the podcast ecosystem because it's part of the overarching plan that I have for creating content that meets your needs right where you are right now.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: The question I have for you related to your platform is how is your podcast a reflection of what you're doing with your content? What's driving what?
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Is your podcast driving your content? Or is your podcast an afterthought or somewhere in the middle?
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: How are you using your podcast? To be foundational to the work that you are doing to promote your ideas, your thought leadership, your offers, how you're providing solutions to your listeners' pain points.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: How is your podcast foundational?
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Number 3: Let's move to the third section of the podcast Ecosystem Audit. Let's talk about your pathway because every episode needs a next step, or you're just hoping people stick around.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: If your podcast does not point people toward your offers, your email list or your calendar. It's really not functioning as a part of your business. What? It goes back to the initial, what is the business purpose, overarching business purpose of your show, and then what is the business purpose of every episode you create? Because every episode. Needs a [00:10:00] clear, specific call to action. So reflect on what I mentioned earlier.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: I invited you to join us inside the Virtual Podcast School community so you can participate in the lives. So you can do something like the podcast ecosystem audit together real time, so you don't just listen to something and then have an additional item on your to-do list. You're actually taking action.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: That's one of my core beliefs by the way. We don't just talk about stuff; we take action on things. Every episode leads your listener to take a clear specific call to action. And you've heard me mentioned several times on the show unless you're new here. If you're new here, welcome! That you want three calls to action in your episodes.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: So I've already given you one. I'm going to give you another one right here, and I'm going to reiterate the first one to join us inside the Virtual Podcast School. Head on over to www.coachjenrogers.com/community to join us. We go live every Tuesday inside the Facebook group, and since I now have handled the how to look things up on the phone and watch the comments, we're good to go.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: So if you're watching live and you have a question, I will answer it during the live. And if for some reason I don't see it, I will answer it after the live. It's a great way for you to get your questions answered immediately and to experience the power of coaching with a certified professional coach.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Let me give you a couple of other examples of calls to action. The obvious: download a lead magnet. Don't make it some boring pDF, make it something interesting, something that ties to solving that pain point your audience has. You can invite people to DM you a key word. If you're sharing information on the socials. You can invite people to apply for your coaching program or to come into a masterclass with you.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Like I've modeled for you, you can [00:12:00] invite people in to join your free community, just like I invited you to join us inside the Virtual Podcast School. Remember, your podcast must point people to the next step.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: What is your primary call to action? Continue to repeat that in your episodes and ensure you have the link to that CTA in your show notes and remind your audience: you can head onto the show notes or you can go to whatever your domain is, wherever you're sending them to get that freebie or to sign up for that masterclass.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: The reason that you read it out loud from time to time is for that special someone who is listening into the podcast who doesn't have the phone! And you read it out and you say, coach jen rogers.com/community. I'm reading it out for you also to help solidify it in your mind. This is where you go. You go here, so your domain name and then forward slash whatever it is that you're sending them to, and that opportunity for you to repeat your domain name is building your authority and the confidence your audience has in you because you are sending them somewhere specific that is on brand and fills their need.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Alright, we've covered three so far. We have two more to go. The first one we covered is your voice. The second one was your platform. The third one was your pathway, and we're going to jump into your pipeline. And a quick reminder here that I do have the links for you in the show notes, so you can download your own podcast ecosystem audit checklist to see how you're doing on specific areas of using your podcast to build your brand and monetize every episode.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Number 4: Alright, number four. Your pipeline.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: This is how your podcast connects to your overarching sales strategy. Your podcast is a [00:14:00] tool that shortens the sales cycle. It doesn't slow it down. The great thing about podcasting is it is evergreen, and most people, well, they record their podcast in a silo and they don't integrate it into their email list, their launch calendar, and they don't incorporate their podcast into their funnels.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: I believe that's a mistake. So here are some things to think about.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Ask yourself, do I have podcast episodes that warm people up before I ever talk to them about what I'm offering? Number two, am I using episodes to nurture during a launch or after an opt-in? Number three, can someone go from listener to lead to client without getting confused about what you do and what you're offering?
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Remember, your podcast is part of your business model. It is not a side hustle with your microphone. It's a part of your whole sales cycle.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: At the beginning of this episode, and as a teaser last week, I shared with you I was going to invite you into something new, and it all has to do with this podcast ecosystem. Now, you know, I offer Power Hours.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: If you need a quick fix to move forward, I highly recommend you book a Power Hours, and you can do that by heading on over to www.coachjenrogers.com/powerhours . P-O-W-E-R-H-O-U-R-S. You can book your first power hour. I promise you, you will walk away with so much clarity.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: In fact, I'd love to share with you Jodi's experience from booking her first power Hour with me.
Jodi Silverman: I used to wonder how much could you really get done in just one hour of coaching. That was until I had a power hour with Jen Rogers. From the moment we started, I knew this was [00:16:00] no ordinary session. Jen came prepared, having taking the time to understand the full scope of my business before our call.
Jodi Silverman: Through thoughtful questions and sharp insight, she quickly uncovered opportunities I hadn't considered! In just one hour, Jen gave me a fresh perspective on my podcast, my guests, and most importantly, my audience. She offered powerful language upgrades and gave me one suggestion for my weekly podcast promo post that I implemented immediately and saw more engagement than I had in months.
Jodi Silverman: That single Power Hour delivered so much value, I did not hesitate to go all in for more. Jen doesn't waste time. She delivers. If you've ever wondered whether an hour can make a difference, you haven't worked with Jen Rogers. Dare to invest in yourself. Dare to get support. Just dare on with Jen.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: One Power Hour really can make a difference, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to work with Jodi and other podcasters just like her. If you want to know more about Jodi, head on over to www.jodisilverman.com , J-O-D-I-S-I-L-V-E-R-M-A n.com. And yes, you can listen to her podcast and you will get a feel for why she dared you to invest in yourself, and she dared you to get support with me, www.jodisilverman.com . Alright, let's go back into the fifth area, area number five, the people.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Wait, wait, wait. I got so excited sharing that with you. I neglected to share the big news. Hey, I am hosting a masterclass just for you on the podcast ecosystem audit. [00:18:00] If you'd like to get on the wait list to get the details for when that masterclass kicks off, head on over to www.coachjenrogers.com/ecomasterclass.
Eco Masterclass, www.coachjenrogers.com/ecomasterclass. Get on the wait list. You will not want to miss the masterclass.
Okay, Let’s keep going!
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Number 5: The fifth area; the people.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: The people, the people, the people. Who are your people? Who are you creating for? It's not just content you're recording.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: It is connection. You are building connection with your voice. Your podcast? It helps nurture and build relationships. When people feel seen, understood and supported by you acknowledging, oh my gosh, this is really hard. Whatever you're experiencing right now, this is really hard. I get you.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: I've got you in this. They'll trust you long before they ever buy from you. As we've talked about in several episodes now throughout 2025, the trust gap is huge. People are much more skeptical because they've been, well, one, they've been burned, but two, they also are more sophisticated buyers, and three, they're spending money very differently in 2025.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: So when your shows help them feel seen and understood and supported. You are closing that trust gap, which is critical to their success and to your success. Remember, speak to one person. Not, Hey y'all. Hey everyone!, Or does anybody, you speak to one person a singular, you.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Use their language. You talk with clients, so you do market research, use the words that they're using. Don't take them and modify them. Use the words they [00:20:00] are using. Tell your stories. Share your stories in your openings. Remember that when you first open your episode, you need to hook your listener in. You can do that with stories. Then finally talk with them. Have conversations in the dms.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Invite them into your communities. Listen to what they need. Several episodes, I made a recommendation that if you want to create opportunities for connection, invite people to book a 15-minute call with you. No sales, no pressure, a getting to know you. Hey, how are you? How can I help you? I'm creating podcast episodes to help you move farther faster.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: What do you need right now? How can I help? Create an opportunity for that, whether you do it one-on-one or you open up a Zoom room every so often and say, join me in the Zoom room and meet some other people who are experiencing what you are experiencing and let's grow together. Create opportunities to network and build community.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Well, let's recap those five areas real quick. The first one, your voice, the second one, your platform. The third one, your pathway.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Every episode leads to something. We're not just going to hope that people stick around. We are going to give them a reason to stick around. Fourth area your pipeline. This is how your podcast is connecting to your sales strategy, to your sales cycle, and the goal with your Evergreen podcast content is to shorten the sales cycle because you're building trust faster because your ideal client is putting you in their earbuds, which is closing that 18-inch gap that holy ground from their head to their heart.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Okay, and the fifth area is your people you are building connection with. When it goes back to the first area with your voice, this is your introduction to the podcast ecosystem.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Before I share one more thing with you, I want to invite you to [00:22:00] answer this question in relation to your people. What is it that you want to do to create additional conversations with them?
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Do you want to start that 15-minute opportunity for them to meet you in a Zoom room? Are you going to be strategic about how you're connecting people and inviting them into your community or having conversations with them in the dm? Make sure you have a plan for how you can nurture that relationship with your people.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Okay, let's close out this episode, number 278 of Simplify Podcasting, because we've got some work to do here.
Don't just listen to this. Implement the learning.
Implement the teaching. Remember, the links are on the show notes for the podcast Ecosystem Audit worksheet. It's basically a checklist for you to look through.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: It's going to ask you some questions about what you have in your podcast ecosystem, and I know it's going to trigger some new ideas for you and for you to be sure of how your podcast is being used to leverage and monetize your business. Also, if you are interested in watching the replay from Tuesdays live inside the Virtual Podcast School, then be sure you are a part of our community, and that link is in the show notes where you can head on over to www.coachjenrogers.com/community so you can join us and catch the replay.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: If Facebook is not your thing, I got you. I can totally relate to that. If it's not your thing and you want to watch the replay outside of the Virtual Podcast School, send me an email (jen@coachjenrogers.com) and I will share the link with you. Alright, that's going to do it for this week's episode. I would love you to join us inside the masterclass.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Get on the wait list first so you can get all the details for when the masterclass goes live. It is live, by the way. It is not some recorded teaching. You will show up live and we are going to work through your podcast ecosystem together so you [00:24:00] can take massive action in a short amount of time so you can build trust faster, so you can scale faster so you can have more clarity and more clients.
Alright, I will catch you in the next episode. God bless you!
