The Podcaster’s Mental Edge for Monetization | #259

Jen Rogers: Do you feel exhausted no matter which way you turn, no matter what you do, what you say, how big or not so big your pipeline is how your sales are. It feels like you're just not meeting your goals. Some call this imposter syndrome. Others say you're having an intense season and you just need a break, take time for self-care and then you'll be fine.

Jen Rogers: What if there's more to this story? Founder reports released a report last year that reveals entrepreneurs can spend so much time in the grind of building, growing, and sustaining a business, that their mental wellbeing often takes a backseat to the demands of entrepreneurship.

Jen Rogers: I suspect that doesn't surprise you. When's the last time you checked in with yourself? Let's do that right now. How would you describe your mental health? I'll give you a moment here. Truly, take this moment. Let me hold space for you to be fully present as you give yourself permission to assess your mental state.

Jen Rogers: Ready? All right. Here's your minute.

Jen Rogers: Ready to come on back? Okay. Come on back to me.

Jen Rogers: What came up for you? If you sensed that you need a mental break, that you need to remove yourself from the intense pressure that you are feeling of running your business, you are not alone.

Jen Rogers: In fact, here are a few common [00:02:00] mental health challenges entrepreneurs face. Anxiety. High stress, burnout, overwhelm. Do anxiety, high stress, burnout or overwhelm prevent you from doing the things that you love or spending time with the people you love? Are you spending so much time building your business, putting out shows, guesting on podcasts, posting and commenting on socials, crafting emails and campaigns and launches that you've lost sight of yourself?

Jen Rogers: And the reason you started all of this to begin with. In this episode number 259, we will simplify podcasting by implementing one powerful strategy that will help you stay focused on what you have been called to do despite the inherent pressures of podcasting and building your business. During the last podcast bootcamp, I experienced significant stress.

Jen Rogers: I forced that bootcamp session in between too many events. Without realizing it before it was too late. That forcing created unnecessary stress and tension, which in turn impacted how I showed up each day. Despite my attempts to cover up that tension and a desperate desire to recover. My wing woman, Terry Ann, God bless her, kept checking in on me to see if I was okay, because she sensed something was off way off.

Jen Rogers: I was clearly not okay. Forcing things does not play out well, and when things don't play out well, it is so easy to spiral into anxiousness and feel overwhelmed. Can I share something with you? I actually hate that word overwhelm. The only overwhelm I want to experience is the overwhelming goodness of God and overcoming of his presence and his power, and his [00:04:00] peace.

Jen Rogers: Not this anxious overwhelm of the world.

Jen Rogers: How about you? Let's say you are in a really good place when it comes to stress, burnout, anxiety, or overwhelm, that you are managing those and they're not threatening you right now.

Jen Rogers: Bravo for you. I have two more areas to invite you into assessing. These two are often overlooked challenges that we face as entrepreneurs. Do you have any guesses as to the last two? One. Loneliness. Two. Isolation. The founder reports survey indicated 26.9% of entrepreneurs struggle with loneliness in isolation.

Jen Rogers: Yaa that 26.9% is a large lonely number. Is your entrepreneurial effort producing a solid ROI when it comes to profits and your mental wellbeing? Listen, who you are is more important than what you do. Do you know for sure who you are? In this episode of Time? To simplify podcasting, you'll walk away with one thing you must do to preserve your mental wellbeing while generating ROI ready to get what you really want.

Jen Rogers: Okay? So truth bomb right here. In order for you to get what you want, it actually takes more than you saying. I want that. I have an Infinity QX 80 on my vision board. It's this gorgeous SUV bronze orange, or there's a midnight blue collar that I really like to, there's room for eight. Everything is luxurious.

Jen Rogers: All the bells, all the whistles. I can want that Infinity QX 80 all my life, but if all I do is say I want that, and I don't commit to a system of success to turn my want into reality. I'll be all talk and there will not be eight people in that swanky SUV. That SUV will not be parked in my garage. Hey [00:06:00] there, I'm Jen Rogers Rogers storytelling podcast host and coach, idea synthesizer, and an entrepreneur who spent many a sleepless night anxiously thinking through what comes next.

Jen Rogers: I don't want to go back there. I really don't. And I want to help keep you from going there so you can preserve your mental wellbeing, and you can sleepy good too. I'm committed to creating space for you to squash. Those times when the business, the podcast, the clients, the launches, the socials, they feel too big.

Jen Rogers: Before we jump into today's episode, to explore one powerful strategy to get what you want while preserving your mental wellbeing and generating ROI in your business. I invite you to create order in your business by downloading the podcast standard operating procedures or SOP for short.

Jen Rogers: Standardizing operations or systematizing them is a smart tactical move that opens up more space for you to create. Head on over to www.coachjenrogers.com/podcastsop  to grab yours for hosting or guesting. Inside the guide, you'll find excellent time saving guidance to podcasting on purpose with the intent to monetize

Jen Rogers: every episode. are you ready to jump into number 259? We will uncover that one powerful strategy to combat all those dangers of entrepreneurship identified in the Founder Reports survey. Alright, let's do it. Let's do it together.

Jen Rogers: What you'll hear on this podcast is a commitment to excellence as we pursue our podcasting efforts together. Let's pause on that word commitment. Will you join me in a commitment to excellence for your podcast, for your mental wellbeing?

Jen Rogers: When you commit to success, that means you [00:08:00] are willing to learn. That means that you are willing to acknowledge. There are some areas right now that may not necessarily

Jen Rogers: be where we want to be, and that's okay as long as we don't stay there. Listen, you are here because you are not willing to become a victim of entrepreneurial pressures. You understand that pressure ultimately strengthens you. Part of growing as podcast hosts and podcast guest is acquiring tools we need to be successful on what matters the most.

Jen Rogers: When you align your business and your podcast with God's will and implement podcasting strategies I teach here, you are creating processes that protect you from anxiousness and overwhelm. You also take advantage of opportunities

Jen Rogers: to join others in community so you can combat those other two dangers of entrepreneurship, the loneliness and the isolation. We were created for community, as Paul reminds us in one Corinthians 12, 12. We are all members of one body. We need each other so we can fully experience the success, and yes, go through those trials of entrepreneurship together.

Jen Rogers: That's why I invite you to join us inside the virtual podcast school where we commit to going after our dreams and simplifying podcasting. The link to join us inside the Virtual Podcast School is in the show notes.

Jen Rogers: When we band together, we can get through the nitty gritty work that is required to grow our businesses. Nobody especially cares for the nitty gritty work, but the nitty gritty, that's where the gold is mined.

Jen Rogers: As Stephen Covey, author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People has shared, you become what you repeatedly do.

Jen Rogers: Years ago. I remember going through that training at work, and I'm just going to tell you, I kind of stuck my nose up in the air and I thought, [00:10:00] oh gosh. Well, this is just, it's not fun. It's not fun. After going through that training, I did acquire a higher level of appreciation about the seven habits of highly effective people, and I learned which habits I needed to work on so I could prevent the ineffective habits from detracting from my success.

Jen Rogers: I agree with Stephen Covey that you become what you repeatedly do. So who are you becoming?

Jen Rogers: In order to answer the question of who are you becoming, it's important to know what you want and to assess what you are willing to do to get it. There's a lot of talk about balance. That you can achieve balance. I frankly, I don't believe that. I don't believe there is balance. I think there are periods of pressure; there are periods where you spend intense focus in one area for a season, for a time, and then that shifts into the next thing. A major purpose of building our businesses is because we want the financial freedom, and what we find out very fast is in the pursuit of financial freedom,

Jen Rogers: we lose time freedom. Until we can navigate with clarity, knowing what we want and what we're willing to do to get it, we will be threatened by those common mental health challenges that we face as entrepreneurs. The anxiety, the high stress, the burnout, the overwhelm, the loneliness, and the isolation. How do we combat those inherent pressures of being an entrepreneur? We really do need a game plan. Given that this is the beginning of the quarter, this is a great time to assess where we expected to be at the beginning of the year and where we are right now, and what things are aligned, and what things are we still working [00:12:00] on. We may have picked up some habits that aren't serving our goals very well.

Jen Rogers: Or frankly, we may be feeling a little bit tired. We may be feeling the strain and the stress that the world is experiencing with all of the ongoing tension. There are so many things going on throughout the world that are creating this fear and this anxiety, and it perpetuates itself. So let's be the voice of calm and the voice of transformation where we are so clear on our mission, that we are so clear on what God has gifted us to do, that we are willing to take the time to sit in the nitty gritty, to look at our plan to ensure we have space for the things that are important to us. To be aware of the threats to our mental wellbeing and to take action to ensure we have what we need. .

Jen Rogers: You know what works for you. You also know what you have on your plate and your vision and your skillset and your individual circumstances are like no one else's. If you are struggling with wondering, how do I get all this together?

Jen Rogers: How do I make all of this work? I believe that's totally normal, at least initially because we have these big dreams. So the trick is to take this time every so often. This is why I like to do it every three months. This is why I like doing things in 90 days, that you sit with yourself and you sit with your planner, you sit with your ideas, and you look at what you have accomplished so far.

Jen Rogers: There are a few steps to do this. The first one is when you are assessing where you are right now, take a few moments to highlight your wins. What are your successes? How have you, or how will you celebrate your successes? [00:14:00] It's important that we train ourselves to celebrate the victories because then our brain wants to create more of them.

Jen Rogers: So here's to creating more happy brains by more victories through the power of celebration. Once you've identified those areas that have gone well for you and you have determined your celebratory plan, then move on to what you're working on for the next 90 days. What things pop up? What events, what travel plans do you have?

Jen Rogers: What commitments do you have for your family? As I look at this next 90 days, April, may, and June, it's the beginning of spring and summer is about to come.

Jen Rogers: It's wedding season, graduation season, Mother’s Day, Father's Day, all kinds of events that are coming up. These are the things that we want to look at as we're planning our strategies.

Jen Rogers: Now that we've planned our celebration for our wins and we've identified what's coming up in the next 90 days, it's time to ask that question, what do I need to do to become this next level person? What things do I need to bring in to be successful? Or conversely, what things do I need to remove that are not serving me well in this environment?

Jen Rogers: Asking those two questions reminds me of not that long ago when I saw a movie star, I guess, well, I guess it's right to call him a movie star because he was on ABC's Secret Millionaire. James Malinchak was a keynote speaker at an event I attended to gain insights for my business to gain insights on planning key strategies. And in his keynote presentation, he highlighted these last two questions I asked you. Here's how he did it. He said, every six months I take out my Rolodex and I look at all the names on my Rolodex, and I [00:16:00] do one thing.

Jen Rogers: I write one thing next to their names. Do you know what that one thing is? It's a plus or a minus. And he's asking himself, is this person adding value to where I am right now, or are they not in the place where they're adding value to the work that I've been called to do? That really is in line with asking yourself the question, what do I need to bring in to be successful?

Jen Rogers: See, sometimes we think bringing a thing in, we forget that a thing could be a who, that we need another who in our business to help us grow.

Jen Rogers: Whether it's a who or a what, asking yourself that question, how is this thing, this habit, this strategy, or this person I adding to the success of my business, or conversely, how are these things detracting from the success of my business gives you great clarity on what your next move is, and that really is the solution to much of what we do.

Jen Rogers: When we have clarity, we can move forward faster. That's the powerful strategy that will help you stay focused on what you have been called to do. When you revisit where you are, when you celebrate, when you look at your plan, when you make the necessary adjustments and investments to continue to do the work that you have been called to do, you will stay focused.

Jen Rogers: When you're focused, you have a, a strong mental wellbeing because you have more confidence. And this confidence, this focus is what keeps anxiety, high stress, burnout, overwhelm at bay. You must do some additional things to be intentional remember, there were two additional things that threaten your mental wellbeing, loneliness and isolation. This is your invitation to join [00:18:00] a community where you get nurtured and nourished, and this is why I invite you to join us inside the virtual podcast school.
