Episode 239

Are you a TRENDSETTER?

Did you know?

According to
Morning Consult Audience, regular podcast listeners are super consumers and trendsetters.

How do you create a trendsetting podcast people want to listen to?

🪝It all starts with a really great hook!

You don’t need to spend hours and hours and hours creating a great episode. Instead, when you start with what you want your listener to walk away with, you create an episode that is not only edutaining (listen to episode #238 for more on educating + entertaining your clients), you build a loyal listener following, closing the trust gap, which not only grows your brand, it brings your listener one step closer to becoming your client.

In this episode, you'll learn how to implement a key part of Jen's proprietary framework to create a binge worthy episode!

Special Shoutout to my clients and their great 🎣h🎣!
Thank you,
Tony Mascolo, + Leneé Pezzano for sharing your genius on the show!

Time To Simplify
Jen Rogers | Creator of the
90-Day Sprint | Certified Coach | Keynote Speaker

I teach experienced Christian entrepreneurs how to leverage podcasting so they can grow their impact, influence + income.

If you’re a successful business owner and you haven’t launched a show, it’s time to talk about how to put your voice to work for you!

[00:00:00] Jen: You know when you meet somebody for the first time, and they pummel you with a bunch of questions? Hey, if this is your first time listening to Time to Simplify, welcome, welcome, I am honored that you are here. Know that this is not the norm to pummel you with a bunch of questions right from the get go.

[00:00:17] Jen: Now that we've established that, are you ready? Here come a bunch of questions. Who were you expecting to hear? What do you want this episode to do for you? How do you want to feel by the end of our time together?

[00:00:34] Jen: When you looked at the title of this episode, did you immediately say, yes, I want to hear that? How about the podcast description? Did you read it? Was it something that compelled you to not just hover over the play button, but press play? Each time you press play on a podcast episode, you have expectations.

[00:00:55] Jen: As a podcast host, I am committed to anticipating your expectations, and as I mentioned in episode number 238, to deliver a show that serves and edutains you. My goal, create an episode that has you doing any or all of these things:

[00:01:12] Jen: one, binge listen. Two, leave a great review. Three, share the podcast with a friend or a lot of friends.

[00:01:23] Jen: Four, respond to my CTA. Five, become a client. If you're considering launching your show, there are several obstacles you must overcome.

[00:01:35] Jen: Tick Tock.Tick Tock. I know you hear that clock. The biggest two-handed obstacle successful entrepreneurs face when running their businesses. You simply don't have time to add another thing. Or do you?

[00:01:50] Jen: What if creating a podcast in four hours or less each week could save you time, expand your influence, your impact, and your bottom line?

[00:02:01] Jen: Here's what I know. While webinars are not necessarily dead, they do require your audience to commit to a specific date and time, which can feel stifling. Whereas podcasts serve as an excellent alternative to webinars, because your audience can access your podcast anytime, anywhere.

[00:02:21] Jen: Podcasts have a built-in sense of control. I can listen when I want while doing something else at the same time. I like feeling productive. Podcasts allow you to connect with your niche audience that you're likely not reaching through conventional means.

[00:02:37] Jen: Podcasts create, nurture, and grow authenticity. When I hop on a consultation call with a potential client, they often say, I feel like I know you, Jen. Your listeners will say the same to you when you show up authentically, you.

[00:02:54] Jen: Did you know?

[00:02:55]

[00:02:55] Jen: Podcast listeners are often more engaged and receptive to your advertising messages.

[00:03:01] Jen: Finally, according to Morning Consult Audience, regular podcast listeners are super consumers and trendsetters. Hello, trendsetter. Would you like to hear three other incredible pieces of data about podcast listenership? And evidence

[00:03:19] Jen: in favor of you starting your own show. One, a deep dive into thousands of survey responses reveals that frequent podcast listeners, those who listen to podcasts at least once weekly, are more educated, better employed, and higher earning than the average U. S. adult.

[00:03:38] Jen: Two, they also consume much more than the general population across nearly every major category, from travel and retail to media and entertainment.

[00:03:49] Jen: And three, frequent podcast listeners are cultural arbiters of sorts. They like to recommend products to others, stay up to date with current affairs, host those social gatherings, and keep an eye on emerging trends. So podcasting essentially serves as a direct line for you to reach your ideal customer, that trend forward individual who has real life influence and ample disposable income.

[00:04:16] Jen: Would you like to have those trendsetters sharing your podcast? Of course you would! It all starts with putting together a binge worthy episode. And with a nod to the clock, you can do this in four hours or less for each episode. All great podcasters know good things start with a great hook that aligns with the desired outcome of each episode.

[00:04:42] Jen: I'll share a few hooks from my current clients as they're building their episode pipeline inside a private 90-day sprint with me. When you hear how different hosts lean into their niche to create connection with their audience, you'll be inspired with ideas on how you could open your own episodes too.

[00:05:00] Jen: On that note, I highly recommend two things as you listen. Number one, boss me around a little bit. Pausing the episode to take notes as your brain explodes with ideas. I promise you, if you don't write them down, you'll likely lose them for good. And two, listen to this episode with a dual perspective, you as the listener being served by me, your host, and you as the podcaster creating authentic connections with your savvy influential audience.

[00:05:32] Jen: The mission of Time to Simplify is to simplify podcasting! We're going to demystify what it's going to take for you to launch your show so you can expand your impact, influence and income in four hours or less a week.

[00:05:46] Jen: Hey there, I'm Jen Rogers. I'm a military veteran turned certified public accountant turned founder and CEO of a tactical business designed for Christian entrepreneurs, serving as your go to podcast mentor for all things podcasting, including podcast ideation and viability, a 90-day podcast sprint.

[00:06:05] Jen: So you can successfully launch your own show. and podcast guesting strategies so you can grow faster. Plus, I'll share some time management methods that work so you can maximize your outputs.

[00:06:19] Jen: I believe podcasting is your secret weapon to deepen engagement and connection with your audience. I also believe it's a beautiful opportunity for you to defy the trust recession of today's economy and bridge that 18 inch gap from your ideal listener's heart to their head when they put your podcast Into their earbuds.

[00:06:40] Jen: My mission is to teach you how to create successful podcast episodes that resonate with your audience because fun is high on my company's value list, we're going to have tons of fun learning together. Edutainment, remember?

[00:06:54] Jen: You can launch a podcast in 90 days when you invest in learning how to do it the right way.

[00:06:59] Jen: Are you ready to reach your trend setting listeners to expand your business footprint? Then let's talk about how you can create your own personalized 90-day podcasting sprint. Head on over to www.CoachJenRogers.com/VIPCoach to get started.

[00:07:16] Jen: We know every good story has a great beginning and creating a binge worthy episode starts with a really good trailer. So your audience understands the purpose of your show, what they're going to walk away with.

[00:07:32] Jen: I couldn't be more excited to share with you my client, Linnae Pisano's trailer intro, which starts off with a really great hook.

[00:07:43] Jen: Thanks so much for pushing play on today's episode. Number 239 of Time to Simplify.

[00:07:51] Leneé Pezzano: You know when a trusted mentor asks you for examples of how you celebrate small wins? You sit there, speechless. Not a single example comes to mind. I mean, you can't even pretend you've got this covered. That idea disturbs you. Never mind the fact that celebrating small wins feels foreign. Who's got time for that?

[00:08:18] Leneé Pezzano: Let me guess. Not you. Celebrations seem like a waste of time, for you anyway. And there are other people far more worthy of celebration than you. Besides, there's work to do. You've got the next big project, event, and meeting to make sure everything is, well, perfect. That's exactly how I felt, before I bought myself a bouquet of flowers, that is.

[00:08:51] Leneé Pezzano: More on that in upcoming episodes.

[00:08:53] Jen: Lynnae opens this trailer with a powerful you know when question. And if [00:09:00] you've been around here You know that I love, you know, when's. What a, you know, when does is it opens up the brain to answer the question. Do I know when? I want to know when I want to be able to say, yes, I know when.

[00:09:16] Jen: immediately Leneé is drawing us in to answer the question. Do we know, have we ever experienced when a trusted mentor asks for examples of how we celebrate small wins?

[00:09:30] Jen: Next, we hear her take us deeper into the story. She's painting a picture with her words, creating a connection with someone who is struggling with... Well, do you know what they might be struggling with, based on what you've heard so far? I bet you know exactly what they're struggling with because this short intro in less than a minute, discloses the fact that Leneé is going to speak to someone who is struggling with perfectionism.

[00:09:59] Jen: When you write a post on LinkedIn meant to create connection with your audience, you do the same thing. You create a hook. You tell stories. The power of podcasting is your audience gets to hear from you directly. They get to hear your tone. They get to hear your sense of humor. They get a sense of what it might be like to work with you.

[00:10:24] Jen: The goal of a trailer is for your audience to identify, is this show for me or not for me? Your trailer is very short. And the hook is a powerful way to keep someone listening so they can opt in. The longer they listen, the more likely they are to stay around.

[00:10:45] Jen: Now it's your turn. If you were to come up with a powerful opening hook in your trailer, what you know when question could you ask? What is a pain point that your ideal client is struggling with that you can turn into a you know when? Hey, not that long ago. My neighbor got a new dog. So if I were to formulate a you know when just off the cuff here, I would say something like this.

[00:11:12] Jen: Hey, you know when your neighbor gets a new dog and they end up working all the time? Well, let me tell you what happened Saturday when my neighbor went to work leaving his new puppy outside.

[00:11:24] Jen: Now, you know, I'm actually not going to go into the full story of what happened when my neighbor left the puppy outside. I am creating an open loop for you that you definitely want to close. And in fact, I promise you, I'll tell you what, I will close the loop at the end of this episode, and I will tell you what happened next.

[00:11:44] Jen: Okay, so that's practicing one way you could open your trailer, a you know when. In future episodes, I will model for you how you can open your episodes in different ways that still attract your ideal listener.

[00:11:59] Jen: [00:12:00] How are you doing? Are you doing? All right. All right. Let's keep moving. I want to share one more example with you on this episode so you can hear how you continue to build hooks and capture attention even when you're in the middle of an episode.

[00:12:15] Jen: All right, Let's hear from my client, Tony Mascolo

[00:12:18] Tony Mascolo, Esq., Mediator SMART to Mediate: So, let's say you are a claims adjuster with 200 cases assigned to you. Not one of them. Is ready for resolution. Why. Because you have just been given this caseload from the 10 other senior adjusters on your new team. They are the ones doing a happy dance in their cubicles. They have lightened their caseload, but they've given you one heavy caseload. And you just know that they gave you the best cases, right? No, I don't think so. I think they've given you their most problem cases. Welcome to low person on the totem pole. You are not going to get the cream of the crop. So, what do you do?

[00:13:01] Jen: Tony's a lawyer and I'm an accountant. Can you imagine who has the best jokes? Hey, listen, what I know from what Tony shared is that first off, I do not want to be that claims adjuster with 200 cases assigned to me.

[00:13:15] Jen: Secondarily, I know this is exactly what happens. And I know this because Tony and I have worked together to create episodes that bring in real life examples of what his clients are struggling with

[00:13:30] Jen: in his line of work. So, of course, yes, I want to know what to do being the low person on the totem pole. How do I get rid of these 200 cases? So he's stirring the pot in my pain to say, Gosh, I see that you've got one heck of a workload and I want to help you manage that workload.

[00:13:52] Jen: Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to determine what is that big pain point your client is struggling with? What is it that is putting them over the edge that makes them want to give up? And how can you offer your solution to reduce the pain they are experiencing?

[00:14:13] Jen: That again is the power of podcasting, of sharing stories, and offering solutions to your clients, the more you share, the more they listen, the more trust and loyalty grows. And in today's economy where we know everyone, myself included, is struggling with this trust gap, giving someone my trust And having other people receive my trust because we're all, well, we're highly skeptical.

[00:14:43] Jen: The world has taught us a lot of new things and skepticism while not new, how we see the world has shifted significantly. that's where closing that 18-inch gap between the head and the heart through the power of your [00:15:00] ideal listener, listening to your voice will help you overcome them those objections, your clients are feeling when it comes to whether or not they want to pursue working with you.

[00:15:12] Jen: Every episode you release is an opportunity for you to serve. To serve in a beautiful, powerful way where your client can experience some victory on their own. But they also know that if they really want to go farther and faster, they're going to hire you.

[00:15:31] Jen: That's exactly why I'm doing what I'm doing. I believe in the power of podcasting. I believe you can catapult your business every episode you release.

[00:15:41] Jen: As we're learning together, there is a method to the madness. There's a way to open each episode. There are key points to hit in the episode. If you want the high-level overview, be sure you check out episode number 238, your roadmap to podcast success.

[00:16:00] Jen: This week, and in subsequent weeks, I'll be breaking down each part of the framework.

[00:16:06] Jen: to build trust with you. My goal is not to convince you to launch a podcast. My goal is to teach you the steps that are important to consider so that when you say yes to launching your podcast, when you say yes to growing your impact, your influence, and your income, You'll think of me, I'd love to connect with you and hear about your ideas for creating your own binge worthy show.

[00:16:32] Jen: Be sure to head on over to www.CoachJenRogers.com/VIPCoach .

[00:16:38] Jen: Now about that dog..., listen, full disclosure. I do not know what day it was when this happened. I do know I was sitting in my living room, reading a book and I saw a shadow go by my patio door. And when I investigated what that shadow was, it was the neighbor's dog dragging his leash and the stake in the ground running around outside.

[00:17:04] Jen: Now, if I were a dog trainer with my own podcast, I would use this story to share how you can train your neighbor's dog when they get off their stake. See there, that neighbor's dog,a cute pitbull appropriately named King, would play right into my ability to build trust with my ideal listener.

[00:17:29] Jen: There is content everywhere that plays right into producing your own podcast. Content is everywhere! And when you use my proprietary framework, you know how to put that content into a process that creates a binge worthy episode. All right, that's going to do it for this week.

[00:17:49] Jen: Thank you so much for joining me on this episode of time to simplify. Bye. P. S.

[00:17:55] Jen: If today's episode helped you, would you share it with a friend that you know is considering launching their own podcast?

[00:18:02] Jen: And if you're willing, would you leave a review on your favorite podcasting app? Your voice through the power of a review has power to bring more listeners to the show.

[00:18:13] Jen: All right. God bless you. And I will catch you in the next episode.
