The Bait And Switch - What Happens When You Don't Find What You're Looking For #215

[00:00:01] Jen Rogers, Host: As a kid, I often went grocery shopping with my mom. that was always an adventure. And not necessarily when I looked forward to. Diet Dr. Pepper always made the list. Mom and I drove to the Piggly wiggly, in her light blue Chevy Astra to purchase truck loads of the stuff. Okay. That's only a slight exaggeration yet.

[00:00:23] Jen Rogers, Host: When diet Dr. Pepper went on sale off the Piggly Wiggly, we went. Mom, armed with brightly colored coupons stuffed into and sticking out of her wallet led us up and down the grocery aisles to grab the fixings for feeding. I don't know, up to six or so of us depended on how many of my siblings and nieces and nephews were home. I do remember enjoying the time. Mostly with my mom, but never really savoring the assignment of the grocery run. It wasn't just the Piggly Wiggly.

[00:00:53] Jen Rogers, Host: No, we'd fill that car with cereal boxes, toilet paper and box goods selected from a number of stores. Based on [00:01:00] the sales ads of the week.

[00:01:01] Jen Rogers, Host: You know, those crackle bars. And I think it was Mr. Goodbar, that chocolate bar and a soda to go along with

[00:01:08] Jen Rogers, Host: it, was the extent of my reward for shopping with my mom. How about you? Do you have a grocery shopping memory from your childhood? Have you ever experienced what we call the bait and switch? You know, the newspapers circular filled with by now limited time, only 25 turkeys available at this price. You'd arrive at the market only to discover that all the turkeys were gone somehow within minutes of the store opening. This is, of course, the bait and switch you go expecting one thing and end up receiving another more on that in one hot second.

[00:01:43] Jen Rogers, Host: On this podcast, you'll find what you're looking for. Opportunity for growth, encouragement for the hard and your step-mom journey, leadership principles and habits based in biblical solutions that are likely to work for you when you practice them. You'll glean [00:02:00] guidance on how to deal with difficult in-laws, outlaws, and exes from a variety of experts in the field of mindset, planning, stewardship, and marriage you'll connect with women just like you

[00:02:11] Jen Rogers, Host: as we vulnerably share our stories. Hey there! I'm Jen Rogers, Certified Professional Life Coach and Bible teacher. Your host of The Empowered Stepmom Podcast, and a woman who values genuineness. Which, incidentally, is quite the opposite of a bait and switch advertisement.

[00:02:29] Jen Rogers, Host: My mission is to share vulnerably with you. My epic fails and host celebratory comebacks that make married with stepkids incredibly worthwhile. When Bill and I exchanged wedding vows on what we affectionately call the wedding hole, a short par three over water on hole.

[00:02:47] Jen Rogers, Host: Number six, we incorporated hitting a shot together as part of the ceremony. That ball well, It never made it over the water. For a brief moment, my mind drifted to the not so good of what that [00:03:00] signified before I laughed it off and waited for pastor mark to introduce me and Bill as Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. The love I have for Bill has grown as we've intertwined our hopes and dreams amidst the initial threats of significant challenges we faced blending our families.

[00:03:17] Jen Rogers, Host: I thought I had high level emotional intelligence, but when it came to my stepkids, I simply couldn't connect. And I certainly couldn't express how all those emotions were churning deep within me, no matter how I expressed it to my husband, you know, softly, loudly screaming, crying, all in an attempt to share with him how frustrated I was.

[00:03:40] Jen Rogers, Host: I wanted boundaries and I wanted to feel safe in my own home. I longed to be understood and have genuine connection with my kids. All of them. If you're looking for a sense of belonging within your blended family, you'll need to do more than talk. You must take action. And that's why each week I invite you to apply [00:04:00] what we talk about on the show. If you desperately long for boundaries within your home, head on over to buildbetterboundaries.com to get started.

[00:04:08] Jen Rogers, Host: I created this powerful free training for you that walks you through steps on how you can begin to successfully implement boundaries. It's not something you can just talk about. It's something you must practice to hone your skills to get better. Hey, Bill and I, we've been married since 2014. So at the time of this recording, in August

[00:04:29] Jen Rogers, Host: we'll celebrate 10 years of wedded bliss. And if you know anything about wedded bliss, you know that there's a lot of things happening that do not feel blissful.

[00:04:38] Jen Rogers, Host: Yes. And. That's just being real. That life together is hard and that's why we need each other. And that's why we need this community. If you are looking for community, in addition to those boundaries, be sure to click on the link in the show notes to join us inside the Facebook group.

[00:04:56] Jen Rogers, Host: If you're like me, there are things that you [00:05:00] are called to do that you don't necessarily want to do. There's work that you've done, that you need to do over. And who likes that? We like to have things one and done.

[00:05:11] Jen Rogers, Host: Hey, let's talk about what's really going on in episode number 215. To be transparent with you, I released an episode earlier and you might be here expecting to listen to an interview with a treasured woman inside of our community. Since that episode released, we have pulled it. And this is what you get. Diet Dr. Pepper and Krackel bars.

[00:05:32] Jen Rogers, Host: I pray this episode blesses you. It is short and sweet and there's more to come next week in episode number 216. Until then, I pray you have some sweet memories of when you too were hauled off to the grocery store to buy all those things in all those sales from all those stores!

[00:05:50] Jen Rogers, Host: God bless you. I'll catch you next week.
